Beyond Cables: LAPP Designs and Manufactures EPIC® Industrial Connectors
LAPP engineers and produces EPIC® industrial connectors to ensure seamless, high-performance power, signal, and data transmission in harsh industrial conditions. The EPIC® range includes rectangular connectors rated up to 1000V and circular connectors from M12 upward — with IP65 to IP68 protection ratings and UL, CSA, and VDE certifications. With over 1,800 connector and cordset variants available through LAPP in ASEAN, EPIC® delivers the same German-engineered reliability that engineers have trusted in ÖLFLEX® cables for more than 60 years.
You Know LAPP for Cables — Here’s What Else LAPP Manufactures
For over six decades, LAPP has built its reputation on premium industrial cables. ÖLFLEX®, UNITRONIC®, ETHERLINE® — these are brands that engineers across ASEAN specify by name.
But cables are only half the connection.
LAPP also engineers and produces EPIC® industrial connectors at its in-house APAC facility, pairing them with the cables you already trust. EPIC® has been part of LAPP’s portfolio for decades, engineered in-house with the same rigour applied to every ÖLFLEX® cable that leaves the production line.
The difference now? An expanded range.
More connector and cordset variants — including pre-assembled patchcords, overmoulded cable assemblies, and plug-and-play cordsets — all manufactured locally for faster lead times and tighter quality control. The LAPP SEA eShop in Singapore alone lists over 1,200 rectangular connector parts and nearly 600 circular connector variants.
Why does this matter for procurement teams? One supplier for cables AND connectors means simplified purchasing, guaranteed compatibility, and a single point of accountability.
What Are EPIC® Industrial Connectors and Where Are They Used?
EPIC® connectors are heavy-duty, detachable connection systems for industrial power, signal, and data applications.
They’re engineered to withstand environments that would compromise standard connectors — vibration on a packaging line, moisture in an outdoor solar installation, or chemical exposure inside a food processing plant.
The portfolio breaks down into four families:
Rectangular Connectors (H-BE, H-B, H-DD Series)
The workhorses of control cabinets and panel-to-panel connections. Modular H-BE inserts support screw, crimp, or cage-clamp termination. Current capacity ranges up to 220A, depending on the series.
Typical uses: control cabinet panel connections, machine tool power distribution, modular production line equipment, high-density signal routing.
Circular Connectors (M12, M17, M23 Series)
Built for servo motors, sensors, and industrial Ethernet. Operating temperatures span -40°C to +125°C, making them suitable for outdoor installations and cold-chain environments.
M23 connectors are a staple in robotics and automation. M12 variants support common Industrial Ethernet protocols, including PROFINET and EtherNet/IP.
Modular Systems (EPIC® MC)
Need power, signal, data, and pneumatics in a single housing? The EPIC® MC modular system uses interchangeable modules. One connector replaces what previously required several separate connections — reducing panel space, simplifying maintenance, and cutting assembly time on the factory floor.
Solar Connectors
MC4-compatible connectors built to withstand UV exposure, temperature cycling, and decades of outdoor service life. Designed for rooftop, ground-mount, and floating solar installations, these connectors handle the thermal expansion and contraction that comes with daily temperature swings in tropical climates. The locking mechanism ensures connections remain secure through monsoon winds and seismic activity — critical for installations across Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, where solar capacity is expanding rapidly. LAPP also supplies matching solar cables and pre-assembled string cables, allowing project developers to source the complete DC-side connection from a single manufacturer.
Across all families, EPIC® connectors are rated IP65 to IP68 (with selected models reaching IP69K) and carry UL, CSA, and VDE certifications. Housings are available in cast aluminium or high-grade thermoplastic, with bio-based options for sustainability-focused applications.
How Do EPIC® Connectors Work with ÖLFLEX® Cables?
This is where LAPP’s integrated approach pays off. When cables and connectors come from the same manufacturer, engineers avoid a costly problem: mismatched components.
A connector crimped to a cable with the wrong outer diameter creates a weak point. An IP67-rated connector paired with a cable that doesn’t maintain its seal under the same conditions defeats the purpose of the protection rating.
LAPP eliminates this by engineering EPIC® connectors and ÖLFLEX® cables as matched systems. Pre-assembled cordsets and cable assemblies arrive ready to install — terminated, tested, and backed by a single warranty.
The practical benefits:
Faster installation — Pre-terminated assemblies and tool-free Quicklock systems cut connection time from minutes to seconds
Guaranteed compatibility — Cable outer diameters, shield connections, and sealing gaskets are matched at the design stage
Single-source accountability — One supplier handles specification, production, and technical support
Simplified procurement — Order cables and connectors together through LAPP’s regional inventory
Why Do Engineers Choose EPIC® Over Alternatives?
ASEAN’s industrial connector market is well-served. Harting, Phoenix Contact, and Weidmüller each bring their own strengths. So what makes EPIC® worth evaluating?
Three things stand out.
First, EPIC® connectors use standard industrial housing dimensions. Engineers can evaluate EPIC® without having to redesign panel cutouts.
Second, no other major connector manufacturer offers an integrated cable-and-connector ecosystem. LAPP provides both ÖLFLEX® cables and EPIC® connectors, engineered to work together — a combination competitors cannot match.
Third, LAPP’s local ASEAN presence means engineering support, ready stock, and custom assemblies from a regional facility — not a distributor waiting on shipments from Europe. Explore the full technical specifications in the EPIC® Product Catalogue.
