On December 9 JJ-Lapp Cable celebrated its 10-year anniversary as a joint venture with a gathering of more than 100 guests at the Fullerton Hotel's Lantern Restaurant.
The relationship between Jebsen & Jessen and the Lapp Group dates back more than 30 years. The cooperation was initially set up as a traditional agent/principal venture in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Later the Philippines was added as an exclusive territory and the business grew steadily.
The Jebsen & Jessen and Lapp families' appreciation of each other grew over the years and informal discussions about a closer collaboration took place on several occasions. The talks culminated in 2003 with the decision to establish a 50:50 joint venture between Jebsen & Jessen (SEA) and the Lapp Group. As a result, JJ-Lapp Cable was born on January 1, 2004.
From a small trading outfit with less than 40 employees, the business grew at rapid rates and is now a full-fledged cable solutions provider, operating in eight countries across South East Asia.
JJ-Lapp acquired its own manufacturing facility in Indonesia in 2011 and the joint venture is now generating a total business volume of almost S$100m and employing more than 300 staff.
J. Peter Jessen has led the joint venture as Regional Managing Director since its establishment and has decided to take the 10-year anniversary as an opportunity to hand over his responsibilities to Mike Winzerling.
Mr Winzerling joined the Lapp Group in 2003 and has been working for JJ-Lapp Cable since 2007, initially as General Manager of JJ-Lapp Thailand and later as President Director of JJ-Lapp Indonesia.
Mr Jessen will assume a new role exploring new investments within the Jebsen & Jessen Family Enterprise, remaining a shareholder and Board Director of Jebsen & Jessen (SEA). Mr Winzerling will relocate to JJ-Lapp's Regional HQ in Singapore to take on his responsibilities as Regional Managing Director.
